Anolon Hard Anodized Nonstick 11-Piece Cookware Set
New marriage, new house, or just deciding that it's time to get a new set of pans will lead you to find hundreds of sets of cookware on the market making it a tough decision to choose. This review of the Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 11-Piece Cookware Set
will look at the pros and cons of this set.
Anolon Cookware is Nonstick
We checked with the manufacturer about the hard anodization process they use to make the Anolon cookware. Here's what we found:
Hard anodization is a process used to treat aluminum to make it better for cookware. How is it done?
In the process the aluminum is submerged into acid. Then an electrical current is applied. This process accelerates the natural oxidization of the aluminum.
The result? A very hard, durable coating of aluminum oxide. This aluminum oxide coating creates a corrosion and abrasion resistant surface.
Non-Stick Surface Won't Scratch, Won't Peel Off
After the hard anodization process the entire cookware set is coated with a Dupont Autograph 2 nonstick coating. Now, what is this Autograph 2 non-stick coating? We contacted the folks at Dupont for an answer:
Autograph 2 is a three layer non-stick coating. The first, deepest layer is a primer. The purpose of the primer is to provide a firm attachment to the metal base.
The second layer enhances scratch and abrasion resistance.
The third, topmost layer is for the "release" of foods and makes a smooth, non-stick surface so foods cook without sticking.
Nonstick
You want durable?
The non-stick surface on the Anolon Nonstick Cookware Set is very long lasting and it won’t flake off. It’s so strong that it’s possible to use metal utensils inside such as a metal spoon or spatula. Sharp knives however are not advised.
The durable nonstick coating means that you get the best of both worlds. You get a nonstick pan while still being able to use all of your favorite utensils.
The non-stick coating used on these pans has been tested in professional kitchens. It has been proven to last much longer than other types of coating. If it can stand up to life in a professional kitchen then it should be able to endure many years of service cooking for your family.
Sturdy Construction
The pans, like all high-end pans, have riveted handles. Why is this important? Some lower priced pans will have handles that are welded or tacked but not riveted.
These welds can weaken or crack over time. The risk is that the handle can come off when you are working with heat, possibly causing injury. The sturdy, riveted handles on the Anolon Cookware should give you many years of service.
These pans are made of a heavy gauge material. Why does that make a better pan? Because pans with thin bottoms will heat unevenly and develop hot spots. These pans heat evenly. That will help you assure that everything you cook turns out perfectly.
They look beautiful
Like a work of art, these superbly made pans are perfectly formed and balanced. The delicate curve of the handle is in harmony with the curve of the lids. If you haven't had a really nice set of pans it is a treat.
The handles are comfortable to your grip, and since they are insulated you don't need to use a potholder when you lift them. This makes them the perfect addition to any kitchen. They will find themselves at home in modern or country style kitchens.
The 11 Piece Cookware Set
The cookware set is made up of 11 separate pieces. There are six pans and five lids.
First there is a 3 quart sauté pan. This is a large, deep pan with straight sides. It is used with a lid. The flat bottom gives you more area for spacing the food and it distributes the heat evenly. The straight sides keep juices from spilling out.
You get 2 skillets (also referred to as frying pans), one 8 1/2 inch and one 12 inch skillet. Skillets have lower sides than a sauté pan and slope outward. These are used for browning and searing meats and frying foods.
There are 2 sauce pans, one 1 1/2 quart and the other 3 quart. Both of these have lids.
Finally there is the 8 quart stockpot. This is a tall pan with straight sides. Because of its size it has two handles, making it easier to lift when it is full of liquid. It also comes with a tight-fitting glass domed lid.
The heavy construction of this set is all the more important with the stockpot. Your soups and stews will take longer to cook. You don't want food scorching and sticking to the bottom of the pan when it is on the stove for longer periods.
How Will You Use These Pans?
All of the pans are basic equipment which every cook will need. This means that you will not waste any money buying pans and skillets that you never use.
The cookware set contains the pans you need to cook many different dishes. They are ideal for making soups, delicious homemade sauce and pasta.
The skillets are perfectly sized for making crepes. The skillet will probably be the most used pan in the kitchen, and that’s why there are two included in this set.
The sauté pan is also perfect for single pan dishes. It’s similar to a skillet and can do many of the same jobs. However, it has deeper sides which make it ideal for holding liquids. A great meal can be made very easily by sautéing onions and meat together. Then additional ingredients along with stock can be added. The whole pan can then be put in the oven to slow cook for a long time. This will create very tender meat dishes which are delicious with very little effort.
Oven safe
You can use these pans on the stovetop or in the oven. The pans are all oven safe up to 400 degrees F.
You can sear or brown foods on the stovetop and then move them right to the oven for finishing, without the hassle of changing pans.
Sure Grip Handles
The handles are made from stainless steal which is then coated in silicone rubber. This gives you a sure grip and keeps the handles cool. Because of this there is no need to use oven gloves or towels when lifting and moving the pans.
It will also minimize the risk of burning yourself while cooking and makes cooking a much safer and more enjoyable activity.
Cleaning Hard Anodized Cookware
The pans should be hand washed and are not really suitable for washing in a dishwasher. Why no dishwasher? The pans can stand up to the head and the spray of a dishwasher, so that's no problem.
But the harsh chemicals in the dishwashing detergent can discolor the finish on the pans. So to keep them looking good you'll want to avoid the dishwasher.
Still the pans are easy to clean. A little soap and a sponge and the pans should be all it takes.
